Port is a naive and cheerful optimist, who travels alongside his childhood friend, Umi, to fix the very thing they had a hand in breaking. His best friend is his pet crab, Jolly Roger, and they are typically in sync with each other’s emotions and gestures. Despite being cheerful most times, Port also has a record for being gung ho which often throws the three into only more problems.
Port holds a strange fishing rod that seems to be able to connect with whatever he is able to see, which will guide him on his journey. He has a lot of learning and growing to do, and some of that may come quicker than he or anyone else would like. Port wants to grow up to be like his dad, a famous sailor, who makes a change in the world. The most important thing to Port though is to help those he cares about, and to achieve his goals.
Jolly Roger is Port's first catch and life long friend! He helps Port and Umi reach the places they can't, and is able to make a big impact despite being so small. Jolly loves to copy people to try and understand them on a deeper level. He's also a bottom feeder so anything Port eats, Jolly is sure to enjoy too (so long as it doesn’t look like him!). Jolly isnt quite sure what is happening around him all the time, but that won't stop him from doing the right thing and helping his friends when they need it!
Umi is a quick-tempered, strong realist in search of who she wants to be in life. She won't hestitate to use her actions before her words, but has a bit more of an understanding of repercussions than Port does. Umi never knew her parents, but hopes to know more about them some day. She takes pride in her physical and mental strength and often cleans up Port’s messes, but sometimes Port shows that things aren't quite as black and white as Umi thinks they are.
Shes the navigator of the group, and carries the compass that leads them to wherever the next shard is located. While her pride is strong, it's also the very thing that can move her and the group into deeper danger. Some day she hopes to sail the entire world to find what it has to offer, and who she truly wants to be.
She hates being called a kid, and especially hates being treated differently than others. However, under her hard exterior there may be something soft, and caring.
Ankle can only be described as a weird individual. Seemingly coming out of nowhere, and carries a cart full of (others?) belongings with him. Port and Umi may run into him more than just once on their journey, which is odd considering he doesnt seem like the kind of person who would travel very much. Ankle always seems to be around when death occurs, and there may be more to him than what is known. For whatever reason, he doesnt seem very fond of the ocean...
